Why Bristol?

Located at the crossroads where the paths of four states intertwine, Bristol is a twin city that straddles the Tennessee/Virginia state line, which runs the length of State Street in our historic downtown. Bristol is uniquely situated within a day’s drive of half the United States’ population.

Bristol offers an exceptional quality of life, with low cost of living and moderately priced real estate. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, four distinct seasons and a temperate climate offer abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation. This favorable location, which boasts a sound infrastructure and a population with a strong work ethic, make Bristol an extremely desirable place to live.

Bristol is known for NASCAR as it is home to one of the world’s greatest and most popular racetracks. Bristol Motor Speedway, which seats in excess of 150,000, hosts NASCAR races in April and August, draws fans from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries, and is also home to the legendary Thunder Valley dragway.

Music also gives Bristol a universal appeal as the city holds the honor of being named the Birthplace of Country Music by U.S. Congress in 1998. In 1927, the legendary Bristol Sessions took place in the downtown area, giving birth to the “Big Bang” of modern country music with the likes of The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers taking part in the historic occasion. Today, that legacy continues through the annual Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, which draws thousands of music fans from around the world.

Adding to the excitement, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol brings premier entertainment, dining, and gaming to the region, further strengthening the area’s reputation as a destination city.

Bristol isn’t just about music and racing, however. When it comes to outdoor beauty, there are few places that can compare to this area. The majestic Appalachian Mountains, coupled with South Holston Lake, offer visitors plenty of options for fishing, boating, hiking, camping, and more.

The Twin Cities boast numerous parks, golf courses, spectacular caverns, and plenty of great restaurants – many of which are locally owned and operated – along with wonderful shopping opportunities.

Bristol is also rich in theater and arts and is home to the historic Paramount Center for the Arts, as well as Theatre Bristol and The Cameo. Numerous fine art galleries and studios of local artists can also be found in the downtown area.

You truly feel like you’ve come home when you’re in Bristol!
